“To dwell is to garden,” wrote German philosopher Martin Heidegger, in one of his more accessible aphorisms…and despite our era’s obsession with the lawn, the observation holds a prophetic relevance. Cultivating gardens for beauty and function is truly a universal and timeless activity, one of the great pleasures of the summer, and part of a distinct recent movement towards more sustainable ways of life.
